Spring on the DC Waterfront

Are you planning on spending spring in DC? If so, The Wharf Marina represents the ideal home port for all your waterfront adventures. All season long, the Washington Channel plays host to a laundry list of fun-filled events, from musical festivals to comedy shows and so much more.

To help you make the most of your time in the nation’s capital, our team has compiled a list of some of the best DC events and destinations we recommend checking out.

Carousel Day

Glen Echo Park is home to the 103-year-old Dentzel Carousel. This year’s edition of the annual event known as Carousel Day is held on April 27, 2024, and serves as the opening day for this historic attraction.

While at the park, you and your family can partake in many other free activities. During the all-day event, there will be live music, arts and crafts for kids, food trucks, a parade, and much more.

Glen Echo Park opens at sunrise and closes at dusk. The official festival hours are 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. However, many people will be there well before that time. If you want to be among the first Dentzel Carousel riders in 2024, come early!

Capital One Arena

The Capital One Arena is home to the Washington Capitals NHL team, as well as the Washington Wizards professional basketball team. Throughout the year, the venue hosts a wide range of other events, including festivals, expos, concerts, and more.

One event that caught our eye is the Colors of the East music festival, which takes place on May 24, 2024. The doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the event begins at 6:00 p.m.

For more updates on upcoming events, check out the arena’s official calendar. The summer months are jam-packed with concerts, and fall marks the return of hockey season!

The Anthem

Since The Anthem opened its doors in late 2017, it has been a staple of The Wharf community. It’s located just minutes away from our facility and has a wide range of concerts. From classic country to alternative hits and everything in between, there’s something for everyone on the venue’s stellar event calendar.

Ticket prices vary by event, with some concerts being priced as low as $35 per person. Typically, doors open between 5:45 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., depending on the type and duration of the event.

A few of the names on the schedule for May include Belle & Sebastian, The Decemberists, and Dwight Yoakam. Make sure to buy tickets early, as most shows sell out fast.

DC Jazz Fest

If you’d prefer something a little smoother and more traditional, we suggest the DC Jazz Fest 2024 Spring Series. The three remaining events for this series are scheduled for Thursday, April 25, Sunday, April 28, and Saturday, June 8.

This represents the 20th anniversary of the DC Jazz Fest, and it’s sure to be one for the books! However, if you can’t make any of the concert dates mentioned above, make sure to check back in late summer/early fall, as the festival will be hosting concerts at The Wharf on August 31 and September 1.

The Wharf Marina

If you are an avid boater, The Wharf Marina definitely needs to be on your list of stops while spending spring in DC. As a state-of-the-art harbor, our facility has fueling stations, large slips, round-the-clock security, a supply shop, showers, and much more.

More importantly, we have highly skilled staff who aim to please. We want to ensure your stay with us is fun and relaxing.

Additionally, we offer flexible slip rental options. You can dock with us for a few hours, a couple of months, or any amount of time in between. Thanks to our centralized location, you’ll be just a short walk or drive away from some of the Washington Channel’s best attractions and events!

What are you waiting for? Book a stay with us or contact one of our team members for more information. We look forward to hosting you.
